Xiaoji Song (she/they) is an artist, writer, and researcher from Wuhan, currently working in Berlin. Xiaoji’s practices use texts, games and performances to collect crumbs of colonial and imperial structures, and attempts to construct critical fabulation on bordering practices, notions of securities, and alternative economies. Particularly, they are exploring post-capitalist and post-border approach of creating safety, sense of community, and kinship. They activate social interactions and mechanisms to explore how the sense of non-belonging and fluidity can create space for resistance.
They understand their art practice as a way to facilitate and build infrastructure of alternative political memories and imaginaries. For their social practices, community, and advocacy work, they regularly collaborate with local networks, grassroot initiatives, NGOs, and various institutions to facilitate workshops, produce media content, and faciliate other events. Together with Yve Oh and Yumo Cheng, they found the interdisciplinary art collective EAST ALIEN COMPANY
.



To make a living & live,  they have also worked with research institute, big tech, bubble tea shop, small AI startup, hotpot restaurant, think tank, English teaching&learning platform as waitress, bubble tea maker, tutor, assistant, communication specialist, intern...these experiences have informed their practices.
